Test Stand Engineer

Supercritical is looking for an experienced and dynamic engineer to join our dedicated development team in West London. We need someone who is passionate about climate change and with a proven track record in coming up with great ideas to novel problems, and who has the self drive to drive those ideas through to completion. Someone who has a grounding in engineering design and fundamentals who is not afraid to roll their sleeves up and do the physical build and commissioning of test stands. 


Founded in 2020, Supercritical has built its proof of concept, secured private and public funding and is building its first multi-cell module.  You will join an exciting and fast moving company that is intent on disrupting the energy industry and enabling a net zero future. An electrolyser is a complex electrochemical system which can sit in any number of value chains. Supercritical’s key sectors include chemicals, energy, heavy industry and transport, and we need a Test Stand Engineer that will accelerate and strengthen our technical team in its London test facilities.


  • Design optimisation of Supercritical’s proprietary catalyst and single cell test stand designs to improve accuracy, reliability and durability.

  • Managing spare and replacement parts inventory.

  • Preventative maintenance of test rigs to improve stand reliability.

  • Developing integrated data acquisition of the test-rig (eg. pressure, temperature, power input, product purity).

  • Running experimental protocols, collecting data and supporting the analysis of results and patterns.

  • Collating regular progress reports and feedback on usability and serviceability

  • Testing any returned or faulty products/samples.

  • Identifying improvements and optimisations that can be introduced in the test-stands.

About you

You will

  • Have a degree in a science or engineering discipline.

  • > 2 years of industrial experience.

  • Analytical, enjoy solving problems and working with people

  • Trained to use high pressure fittings, such as Swagelok and/or Parker.

  • Experience with high pressure and high temperature fluid systems - supercritical water conditions preferable but not essential.

  • Experience of designing, building, commissioning, maintaining and operating test stands.

  • Working knowledge of  risk assessments/GLP.

  • Intrigued by product development and want to play your part in it.


  • Knowledge and experience of electrical design and wiring.

  • Basic knowledge of data logging and hardware control.

  • Basic knowledge of HAZIDs and HAZOPs.

  • Experience with testing tools such as Selenium, Apache JMeter, LabVIEW, or TestStand
